Recent Developments in Address-Based Sampling

Increasingly, survey and market researchers are considering address-based sampling (ABS) methodologies to reach the gen­eral public for data collection and related commercial applications. Reasons for this trend include the evolving coverage problems associated with random digit dial (RDD) sampling methodology, even when supplemented with cellular telephone numbers, and the growing concerns for the eroding rates of response to single modes of contact. On the other hand, recent improvements in the databases of household addresses available to researchers have provided a versatile platform for creative sampling and survey administration alternatives. The Computerized Delivery Sequence File (CDSF) of the USPS provides near perfect coverage of all the US addresses along with different options for multiple modes of contact.
